I would always assume fashion weeks were too far-fetched and a long shot at fashion statements I would even consider experimenting. Was it the case with you as well? Fashion weeks have come a long way, and I couldn’t have been happier. Collections have evolved from what they were at inception to something more accessible while catering to the fashionista in all of us. If anything—Fashion shows leave you awe-inspired with their novelty and prodigal designs; every single piece one right after another. And, this year it has been yet another jaw-dropping week. Our Bollywood divas sizzled while the designers gave us a peek into the fashion trends.
And to make your life easier, we have scoured through the fashion week just to get you the best. From the exclusive runway collection to ready-to-wear, this will leave you asking for more. You can’t help but scroll up and down at least a few times.
Presenting to you the “Best of Lakme India Fashion Week”
1. Bipasha Basu For Falguni And Shane Peacock
Bipasha Basu flaunted the showstopper outfit by Falguni and Shane Peacock, who put up a spectacular show. She set the ramp on fire and ended the collection with this breathtaking nude gown embellished with sequin and stone. The illusion cape overlay in the heavily ornate tulle fabric was oozing glamor and took everyone’s breath away. Falguni and Shane are known for showcasing their internationally acclaimed label globally, and Hollywood celebrities like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton also wore their Rebel collection.
2. Tabu In Gaurang Shah
There are two sets of people—one who can carry white flawlessly and the others who just cannot pull it off to save their life. I’m the latter. And, it can feel pretty bland if not treated well. You then have Gaurang Shah who rocketed an entire collection in white. I have now changed my opinion on white forever! Speechless and spellbound by every single piece. One collection you cannot afford to miss. It was a treasure trove of dresses, one piece dresses, sarees, Palazzo and much more in white. Each better than the other. And Tabu ups the oomph quotient in this already gorgeous outfit.
3. Aditi Rao Hydari In Kotwara And Tarun Tahiliani
Aditi Rao is known for her romantic and fragile looks. She looked glorious as ever as in the ‘Romance of the Kotwara’ collection by Kotwara and Tarun Tahiliani. The encompassing Banarasi black lehenga, bead studded blouse and embroidery gilded tulle dupatta. The makeup compliments her look like the aura does for her personality.
4. Malaika Arora For Divya Reddy
Malaika Arora sizzles, owns and aces in anything and everything she ever wears. A diva of sorts! Her dress was subtle, vibrant and resplendent. Designer Divya Reddy has redefined showstopper dresses which are otherwise over the top. A fiery and layered yellow skirt paired with a fierce red crop top and finishing with a yellow embellished georgette dupatta is completing the look with a perfect balance of shine and subtlety. A summer/resort collection from Divya’s collections stays true to the season.
5. Sushmita Sen In Sashi Vangapalli
Sushmita Sen a name synonymous with damsel, diva, glam goddess and much more is known for her scintillating personality, and she did just that at the fashion week this year. Walking the ramp for Sashi Vangapalli label which was a batch full of fascinating dresses conceptualized to suit the Indian contemporary women while keeping the traditions intact. The lilac gown with stone embellished bodice work that moves into a stylish peplum cut at the waist asymmetrically trails down into a flouncy pirouette; perfectly translates the theme of the collection.
6. Sophie Choudhary In Abha Choudhary
Abha’s collection ‘Coral 101’ was a parade of all good things. Drawing inspiration from white corals and splendid seas bringing to us her imaginary take on the intriguing life under the magnificent waters. Staying true to the theme Abha’s collections are flowing and subtly opulent. The colors, fabrics, and silhouettes simply left everyone speechless. A pastel colored gown exuberantly embellished with stones, beads, and pearls makes this a promising showstopper look. Sophie Choudhary nailed this look, and it felt like it was meant for her.
7. Diana Penty For Payal Singhal
A feather light beauty known for her tender looks set the runway on fire as a first-time showstopper. Payal Singhal’s ‘Lady M’ collection inspired by the novel ‘Death on the Nile’ portrayed the inspiration all through. Payal defied all odds with this showstopper ensemble with an anti fit top which is quite unlikely. The long skirt in sheer proportionately balloons up into what seems like a dreamy infinity. The floral motif breaks the pastel colors and fringes round up the look perfectly.
8. Karisma Kapoor In Arpita Mehta
Karishma Kapoor is known for her sartorial musings be it walking in and out of the airport or Diwali bashes or runways. The best part about Arpita Mehta’s ensemble for Karishma is that it works on her like a well-oiled machine. Her closet oozes boho-chic vibe and blends well with the island life theme of Arpita’s collection. She creates striking pieces with a shade card of yellow, off-white-, creamy, mustard and everything else that falls under this spectrum. The crochet jacket, top with ruffles, pleated and muted skirt with a sheer overlay is truly a masterpiece.
9. Padma Lakshmi In Tarun Tahiliani
Returning to the runway after a ten-year hiatus Padma Lakshmi outdid herself and just picked up from where she left. She mentioned about being conscious about the comeback but it didn’t feel like it one bit. Tarun Tahiliani’s Mughal architecture-inspired collection transpired a historical theme into contemporary musing; truly depicts his craftsmanship. The silk shirt in pink and a brocade skirt with a sparkling hemline is a dress that should be part of every girl’s wedding trousseau and something that you can’t get over anytime soon.
10. Kiran Rao Spotted In Gauze Dress
Kiran Rao is as shy as her husband Aamir Khan but makes an appearance or two occasionally. And, she nails it every single time. With minimalistic makeup, jewelry, and earthy attires her dressing is distinct and unique just like her movies. Going by the theme of the fashion week this year she donned a white gauze layer work maxi dress, a full sleeves jacket and color blocked it with brown pumps. Color blocking is for real!
